ROMAN CATHOLIC FEASTS.
DECREE SUPPLEMENTARY TO THE MOTU PROPRIO.
As a kind of supplement to the Motu Proprio of T*ius X, and in response to questions from several Bishops, the following decree has been issueu by the Sacred Congregation of Rites relative to th© days of precept:— I The feast of St. Joseph shall be held on March 19th, not as a day of precept, and without a,n octave, under the title: Solemn Commemorotion of St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin, Confessor. 11. The Feast of the Patronage of St. Joseph shall be held - on the third Sunday after Easter as a double of the First Class, with an octave and ■with the quality of the primary feast under the title; 'Solemnity uf St Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin; Patron of the Universal. Church. 111. On the days within the octave and on the octave of tho Solemnity of St. Joseph the Office shall bo recited as in. the Index of the Roman ottavario. . , IV. The Feast of tho Most Holy Trinity fixed for the first Sunday after Pentecost shall be celebrated as a double of the first class., V. Tho Feast of Corpus Christi ehall be celebrated no* as a day of precept, but as a double of the first class, haying a privileged octave, just as the octave of the Epiphany, on tho Thursday after Trinity Sunday, under the title: Solemn Commemoration of the Most Sacred Body of Our Lord Jesus Christ. VI. In cathedral and collegiate churches on the Sunday within the octave of the feast, after the Office and its relative Mass have been said, a solemn Mass may be sung as on feast days, with the Gloria, one Oratio, the Sequentia Credo, and Gospel of St. John at the end. Where there is no obligation for a community Mass the commemoration of the Sunday and the Gospel of St. John are to be added. But on this Sunday the solemn procession of the Blessed Sacrament must be held, as prescribed in the Ceremonial of Bishops, book i, chapter 32. VH. The Thursday after the octave of the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus shall be held, as before, as a double of the first-class. This decree hokje good in the case of religious communities and churches inwhich a rite other than the Roman is used.
