Mr Melntosb hae received a cablegram stating that the Johnson-Wells fight has been abandoned, and that Johnson is sailing for Australia. , LONDON, September 28. Five defendants at Bow Street Court gave an undertaking not to box in the British Isles. The summonses were therefore withdrawn. Johnson announces that after finish* ing his present contracts in England he will permanently retire as the heavyweight champion of the world. He states that this decision is not connected with the Wells' contest, as he had decided to retire even if the Wells' contest had come off.
