. The wentliw conditions. prevailing for the second day of tho Geraldine Racing Club's Sprin? Meeting were decidedly unfavourable. A cold "eou'-weet iwind blew off tho wow cohered ranges, and there w*s very little •trrwhine. The special train from Christchurch wm poorly patronised, whilo the Club's local patrons weTe in nrucb leae force than on' the opening day. Despite the rain that fell overnight the courpo was in very fair order, and the fields were aot ■ larfte the racing was fairly interesting. When ridrag Mere in the Spring Handicap, o. Collier sn«tain«2 what looked like ft nasty fall, but on examination it was found that his injuries were r.ot of a serious naturo. On the conclusion of both the trotting events protests were entered against the ' winnere on the ground of inconsistent nmnipg, "but 'Jie'y were dinn-issed. Gilt Edge was quickest out of the barrier, while Mere, who «m laet "to move, loet his rider after going a furlong. Once into the beck stretch True Knight wae running eeoond to Gilt Edge, with Gold Coin handy. This was the order past the six furlong post, but a little further on True Knight took charge, and he landed into the straight well clear of Gilt Edge and GlenSeld. From this out True Knight had matters all hie own -way, winning by six lengths from Glenfield, who was a similar distance in front of Gold Coin. Time, lmm 45 l-sth ccc. (Winner bred by Gates and trained by J. Lindsay.) John Bunyan got the beet of £he start, and with a fnrlong gone he was well cleaT of Foam Flake, Safety Pin, and Blytheboy. This was the order all along- the back, and John Bunyan landed into the fttraight three lengths clear of Battalion and Foam Flake. From this out the leader was never troubled, and won easily by five lengths from Battalion. Safety Pin was a length , awey third, followed hv Blytheboy. Time, lmin 18s«c. Stepmeter was quickest to begin, and at ihe end of a furtoner he was well clear of Cc.sa Nova, Grand Medallion, and All Guns. This was the order as the straight was entered, and from this out Stepmeter h»d matters entirely his own way, winning by four lengths. By a I*te run All Guns defeated Grand Med»llion by a head for Fecond money, with Casa Nova fourth. Time, OOsec.
