WELLINGTON, September 27. A sum of £2000 was voted Inst night for repairs to. and maintenance- of. the present Parliament House. When tho Public Buildings Estimates were Wing considered, tho Leader of the Opposition asked how much longer Parliament, would bo required to remain in tho wretched old tumble-down shed which it now occupied. He asked how tho £'2000 voted last session had been expended, and why a similar amount appeared this year. The Minister of Pubhe Works U»* Hon. R. McK<?nzio> said the wooden buildiiiL; now occupied by Parliament, was thirty-eight years old, and naturally tho repairs and maintenance cost a ticod dqal. Snoaking of the. nrw Parliament House. Mr MeKenzie said the nlaus would be ready for examination "by members probably by the end of thoweok. Ho had high hopes that the foundations would be commenced as soon as members left at tho end fit tlie present session, and that by tho i-'nd of 1013 session the new buildings would ho ready for occupation. Ho promised to Mipply information regarding Pie cost of alterations and maintenance since, tho fire of 1907, when the Public Works Estimates were beforo tho House.
