THE POSITION LOCALLY.
The information regarding tho raising of tho physical standard which has just boon made public, has been known to tho local Military authorities for some time past, and they have selected their men accordingly. Hv the timo all tho recruits are drafted to the various companies it is not anticipated there will bo any excess of youths who are candidates for the Territorial ranks. Iv regard to the discrepancy in tho Act, it appears from enquiries made that although tho flaw makes it possible for medical inspection to bo evaded, it does not mean that a lad who is eligible will be able to refuse to drill. If ho pleads physical unfitness, and has not been examined by tho medical officers attached to the forcps, he will have to produce his own doctor's certificate- to prove his physical inability to serve.
