HON. T. MACKENZIE TO CONTEST EGMONT.
A VERY BIG AGRICITLTURAL PROGRAMME. (special to "thb r&iss,") WELLINGTON, September 26. In announcing his candidature for Egmont this morning, the Hon. T. Mackenzie said: — "I am going in for a very big agricultural programme, and I have therefore selected a district that I know appreciates the progressive work in that direction, and will be sympathetic with my efforts. I feel that the time has arrived when the people of New Zealand ought to recognise the necessity of devoting their utmost attention, in both a practical and a scientific manner, to the agricultural and pastoral development of the Dominion. It is my desire, if elected, with the co-operation of the Prime Minister, who is in entire accord with my views, to widen our operations. We are realising how much other countries are specialising, and the
