i l>ll iTiuay uvemiifc mo lunuei nan I was filletl by the resident* of Otira, •assembled to bid farewell to the Rev. E. K. Mules, who has been stationed (here for the past three years, and jto present him with a memento of his ! stay here. Mr Murdoch McLean, who i occupied the chair, referred to the earnest manner in which Mr Mules had worked, and how ho had endeared himself to the people, not alone to those of his own congregation, but to all creeds. He lwd been instrumental in having the fine recreation hall built for the use of the tunnel workers, and also in establishing a Mission Hall for church services. Mr Mules was taking with him the friendship and good wishes of the Otira people. His genial presence and cheery smile would be missed long and often, but they could not hope to keep him for ever. Mr McLean then ou behalf of the Otira people presented Mr Mules with a handsome dressing case, and silver inkstand, and on behalf of the Sunday school pupils with a gold fountain pen. Mr Mules feelingly replied and expressed his sorrow at leaving a place where he had made so many troo friends. He said ho had learned much since coming to Otira—lessons in human nature which, perhaps, ho could not have learned elsewhere and which would bo most useful to him. Hβ had made many friends and ho hoped his work among them had been productive of some pood. He- was leaving the scene of Ins three years labours with regret, but also with gladness, for he hoped that his successor would do bettor work than ho had evor clone. He thanked the peoplo of Otira for their handsome presents and expressions of goodwill. Supper was* then handed round and vocal and instrumental music and dancing concluded the evening.
