GOVERNMENT FORECAST.

Mr Bates's eummary and weather forecast, iesued at Wellington at 5 p.m. yesterday, were as follow: —

The barometer' to*o in the North during the night, but has fallen everywhere to-day. Cloudy and hazy ■weather has prevailed, with showers in a few places. Moderate to strong northerly winds have predominated. Present indications aro for increasing northerly winds, and gales are probable southward of New Plymouth and Napier, cloudy and unsettled weather preceding rain in most parts of the country. The barometer has a falling tendency everywhere, especially in the South, and the seas a.re increasing on all the western coasts.
