At tho close of his speech in the Addrcss-in-Beply dehacc to-nijjht, Mr Massey said :—-Before I fiuish wiui the Addr€ss-in-lleply, Mr Sinsakor, I would like to refer to a personal matter. During last session, in th© heat of debate—the fiercest debate that probably the House h3s seen for tho last twenty years—l referred to a statement that had been made to mc some years previously -ivith regard to tho late Mr T. E. Taylor. I need not recount the circumstances. 1 intended to deal with tho subject when I went to Christchurc)i m some few weeks ago to address a political mooting, but I had not tho opportunity there. I -wish to say, now, that I withdraw the statement unreservedly, and regret that it was raade." Mr Massoy's announcement -was received with hearty applause. The Hon. Geo. Fowlds, who followed Mr Massey, Faid he was very pleased to hear the statement made. It was a right thins, and tho matter was nondeared up and done with. (Hear hear.) '
