BLUFF HARBOUR.

(special to "the press.*') INVERCARGILL. Jul* 27. Tho treasurer of the Bluff _t*r_ourlßo_rd to-day aubmitted a statement, as •uoidor. of the dues collected for tho six month, ended 3-th Juno last. The corresponding; amounts ior tho first six months of last year aro given in parenthesis:— Pilotage does, £2203 (£2492); part cbaxges,, £12-. (£1322); barthfS?^ 68 * £3770 <-----): wbarfas- dues, £4166 (__S67); tpnnago dues, £311 (£175); water rates, £449 (£495); Stewart Island Bfervioa, £775 (£685). Total ordinary revenue, £11,971

Of tho three Shaw, Savill, and Albion steamers which trado regularly to th. Dominion two have now visited Bluff—the lonio (12,233 .tons) and tho Corinthic, which is at pro6«nt in port (12.231 tons). Tim Corinthic waa brought in «t 3 o'clock this roorninsr by Captain Lovett (chief pilot) entirely by the lights. When tb-_ lonio camo into Bluff she wa« piloted by Cai.tain Mac Donald, then chief nilct. but it was a moonlight night, ftnd absolutely calm. This morning, howler wh«n tho Corinthic was berthed it was pifch dark, and a. considerable win. waa blowing, so that Captain Lovctt'a schkr-e----ment is a distinctly meritorious one. The captain said himself, however, that tho approaches io the harbour were like going up a street.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TEL-CRAM.)" INVE-tCAEGILL, July 28. At th. invitation of Captain McDougall, | representing tho Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, a number of representative city men wore entertained at luncheon to-day on board the R.-LS. Corinthic at Bluff. Th_ gathering was notablo for the tribute paid by Captain Hart, of tho Corinthio, to the arrangement- at Bluff Harbour. In proposing "Success to the Harbour," Captain Hart (whose vessel had com. tip tlio harb-ur in darkness) said it was a harbour capable of extension when tho future demanded. The harbour was all right, nnd the fact that tbe tides had to be watched was nothirif? unusual. When the Corinthic could enter on a dark night and ooroe alongside, without bo much as crushing an ew_, it completely refuted tho charges that had been mado against tho harbotrr. As to the nort approach ta, wbarvtw, lights, <*.tc. Captain Hart said they wero _n first rate.
