BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SUMNEK. Tho Suraner Borough Council met on Monday night, when thoro were present—Tho Mayor (Mr H. J. liiarriner), and Crs. Boujton, Smithson, Lawrence, Dorman, Lill, and Brewer. Leave of absence was granted to Crs. Mitehell and Wood. The financial statement showed that since the last meeting tho receipts on tho District Fund Account wero:—Balance brought forward £412 10a 2d, receipts £24 19s (id; total £437 18s Bd. The expenditure had totalled £197 ss, there being a balance carried forward of £240 13s Bd. On the Government Loan Account the balanca brought forward was £517 4s lid, while the expenditure was £82 14s, leaving a balance to credit of £434 10s lid. The Temporary Loan Account was in debit to the extent of £600. Accounts were passed for payment as follows:—District Fund £40l 9s lid, Government Loan £54 11s sd; total £516 Iβ 4d. Tho Christchurch City Council wrote forwarding a. copy of heavy traffic by-laws, and asking tor a return of heavy traffic fees collected t if any, also the population and valuation of the borough. Cr. Smithson reported that ho and the Town Clerk had attended the conference of local bodies to consider the matter, and the letter was the result. So agreement was arrived at with regard to the apportionment of fees and a further meetiug was to tako place It was agreed that Cγ. Smithson and the Town Clerk should represent the Council at that meeting. The Public Works Department wrote forwarding a copy of tho proposed new tramway regulations. The Mayor explained that the Tramway Boards wero holding a conference in Wellington, and it was desirable to support tho decisions arrived at by that conference. The matter was left to the Mayor to deal with. Tho matter of obtaining a new -post office for Sumner was referred to the Works Committee for consideration. The Trades and Labour Council industrial Exhibition Committee wrote requesting the patronage of the Council to the exhibition which opened in October. It was decided to grant the request. It was decided to forward a letter to the Chief Postmaster thanking him for the improvement recently effected to the postal service in the borough, and asking him if it was possible to have on automatic telephone placed in tho porch at the post office at isamner.
