LABOUR DEPARTMENT REPORT.

(Received July 11th, 10.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 11. The annual report of the Labour Department shows that there are 4533 factories registered, employing 79,972 hands, an increase during the year of 274 factories, and 4814 hands. The report adds that the increase would havo been much greater if labour had heen available to meet tbo, demands. Only 5.9 per cent, of the employees are under sixteen years of age. Never beforo has there been such a shortage of skilled labour. Reports of the country districts are as favourable as that of the city.
