IN DIVORCE.
LEWIS V. LEWIS.
Louisa Jane Lewis apolied for a divorce from Charles Houston Lewis on the ground of adultery. Mr Brown appeared for petitioner. Respondent was not present and not represented. Petitioner said the parties were married in Christchurch on October 2nd, 1886. Petitioner lived with respondent in Christchurch for seven years, and thero was issue of the marriage four children. In consequence of some disagreement, a separation was arranged, and petitioner and respondent had been living apart .since. Petitioner understood that respondent was living with another woman in Christchurch, who went under the name of "Mrs Lewis." She had often seen them together.
To his Honour: It was a fifteen-year-old story. Tho reason why she had not taken proceedings beforo was that sho had had no wish to do so. l . Pressed by his Honour, sho said her* reason for applying for a divorce now was that she wanted to got married.
Edward Charles Ellis, residing at Garden road, Fcndalton, said respondent and a woman had been living together in his house in two furnished rooms for fifteen or sixteen months. The woman was living with him as "Mrs Lewis." Tho previous witness was not the woman.
His Honour deferred judgment, as he wished to look up the authorities on the question of whether petitioner's long delay in applying for a divorce had affected her being granted a divorce or not.
