(BT ODB COMMERCIAL EDITOR.) Tliere wero large entries of stock and a good attendance. Beef showed .a decline, there was practically no change in store sheep, and fat lambs were still firmer in price. The fat sheep market was very firm. Pigs sold better, there was a poor demand for young store cattle, and good dairy cows sold well.
STORE SHEEP.
There were large entries of stock and a good attendance: Beef showed an advance, thero was practically no change in store sheep, and fat lambs were still firmer in price. The tat sheep market opened well. The yarding of store sheep was somewhat larger than last week, lambs forming the larger part, the balance being mostly ewes, with a few pens of wethers. Ewes and wethers sold at mand for ewe lambs, but in the absence of South Canterbury buyers, other lambs did not sell quite so well as last week. Ewes sold up to 14s for twotooths, 8s 6d-to-lla 9d for soundmonth, 6s 6d to 8s 3d for_ full and failing mouth, and 4s to os 6d tor broken mouths. The nest of. an entry cf medium wethers made lis to Lis, others 9s 3d, small halfbreds to 10s lOd. and merinos 4s 9d. Ewe lambs made 9s 6d to 10s, mixed sexes 7s to 8s 6d, and small- sorts 3s 6d to 6s 4d. Among the sales were:—Ewes: 146 two-tooths at 14s, 6p at 8s fio, 452 sound-mouth (halfbreds) 9s 6d, 66i at 6s 8d to 6a 9d, 94 at 7s 9d, 265 at 6s to 6s Id. 130 at 4s 9d, 65 at 8s id. Wethers: 21 at 12s, 133 at lis Id, 580 (halfbreds) 10s 6d to 10s lOd, 102 merinos at 4s 9d. Lambs: 117 ewes at 10s, 420 at 9s 8d to 10s. .80 at 9s bd, 40 wethers,at 8s 4d 111. at 7s Bd, 52 at Bs, 136 at Bs*7d, 40 at 8s 6d, 5b at 7s 7d, 156.at 7s Id. 156 at is Bd, 337 at 7s 10d, 126 at 7s 2d, 107 culls at 3s 7d.
FAT LAMBS
• The entry of fat lambs totalled 6184, or less than 100 moro than last week. Thero was good competition all through, the sale, the quality showing an improvement on lato yardmgs. buyers were keen to operate, and tooK 5894 out of the total, at prices ranging from 7s 3d to 18s 9d. FAT SHEEP. The yarding of fat sheep was a very largo one, and the average quality showed a little improvement on last week. There was good competition for all classes, and prices were firm right through the safe, a good clearance being effected. FAT CATTLE. There were 431 head of fat cattle penned, including a number of lines of very prime quality In consequence of tho large jarding, there was a. weaker demand, and prices declined about Is 6d per 1001b. Steers made £7 17s 6d to £11, extra to £15; heifers £5 17s 6d to £10 10s. and cows £5 to £10 17a 6d, equal to 24s to 27s 6d for prime, 21s to 23s 6d for medium, and 19s 6d to 20s 6d for cow and inferior per 1001b. STORE CATTLE. The yarding was a small one, and the quality throughout very indiflerer.t, the condition being poor. Owing to tbe scarcity of feed, there was a poor demand, and sales were extremely difficult to make. Yearlings made 13s to 14s 6d, fifteen to eighteen-month sorts £2 lis, two-year heifers £3 13s, and dry cows 25s to £3 15s. DAIRY COWS. A fair number of dairy cows wore penned, and for the better class there was a keen demand, bnt cows in poor condition were comparatively neglected. Representative prices ranged from £4 .o £8 ss, extra making to £9 lOe. PIGS. Pigs of all classes formed good entries, and there was an improved demand for fats, resulting in a brisker sale. Choppers sold up to 80s, heavy baconers 50s to 565, and lighter 38a to 47s 6d. equal to 4d per lb; largo porkers 32s 6d to 375, and smaller 25s to 30s, equal to 4_d per lb. Tbe yarding of stores was not as large as at several recent sales, and the heavier description was practically unrepresented. For medium-sized animals of a good class there was a good demand, skies being made at prices ranging frcm los to 19s, while smaller sorts, for j winch there was less enquiry, changed
Sands at 5s to 14s. For wea-nere ihe demand was lifeless, and sales were mado at prices ranging from 2s to 4s M. TEMUKA. Thero was a good yarding of sheep at tho fortnightly stock sale at tho Temuka yards yesterday, and prices were good for this timo of the year. Fats brought good prices, but in many cases did not reach owners' reserv.es.
