DIOCESAN STANDING COMMITTEE.
Tho Standing Committee met on May 9th. On the motion of the Ten. I Archdeacon Gosyet, seconded by Mr I "VY. G. Brittan, it was unanimously re~ ; solved:—'-That the Standing Commit- ; tee of the Diocese of Christchurch j heartily congratulates his Lordship. ! tho President, upon the completion of the twenty-first year of his episcopate, ; and assures him of their continued and affectionate loyaJty." The Bishop acknowledged the resolution in feeling terms. The Bishop referred to the return of_ the Yen. Archdeacon Harpor to the diocese, who, however, still abides by his intorrrion to resign thecure of Tirr.aru at, the end of the year. A proposal from the CounHl of the C.E.M.S., having reference to offices in Cathedral square, which they offer to W to any Church bciv, was referred to Mr E. J. Ross and "Mr W. C. Bean for enquiry and report. The Roy. Henry Williams, sen., wns appointed diocesan examiner for the current year. It was agreed to recommend the Church Property Trustees to lnaks a loan of £o0 on the ten years' scale to the parochial district of Heathcotc. in further assistance of the building of a schoolroom. Plans for a youth's clubroom at Avo.nside. and for an addition to the RedoiifTs Mission room, were approved with suggestions. Report vas mndo that thoro war, still Romedifficulty in defining the whole boundary of the Aslib'irton parish, further report to be made at the next meeting. Mr H. D. Andrews was requested to draw up a regulation for Synod, providing for the. case of a Bishop giving notice of resign ntiom on tho eve of the election of a new Synod. Colonel ■\V. A. Day was elected a member of the Standing Committee in tho placo of Mr G. G. Bridses, resigned. Mr T. D. Harman was elected a Church Property trustee in the room of Mr Bridges. A letter from Mr Bridges, acknowledging the resolution passed by the committee at its last meeting, was read. An application from St. Margaret's College, enquiring as to the northern reserve in Cranmer squnro with a- view to purchase, wns referred to tho Church Property Trustees. Tho Vicar and churchwardens of Fendalton wroto, asking that a site for a mission, church might bo secured in the suburb of Wroxton; t!ie letter was referred to a sub-committee for report. Proposals from Lincoln for the sale of a piece of Church land wore referred io the Sprinsston churchwardens for consent or opinion. The Rejistrar was instructed to acknowledge proposals in reference to tho Ashburton <jlebe, and to advise that by their representatives they should brinpr tho matter before Synod. Canon Pascoo reported tho receipts for the Church Mission Fund, which considerably exceeded those of last year, though* still lenvinc; the balance of the fund dr. £08 13s 3d at 30th April. Tho Remstrnr reported the balance of the Maori Mission Fund to be or. £54 11s gd. Tim Bishon explained tho-arr.infromonrs for a service at 11 a.m. on June 22nd (Coronation of their Majesties Kincr George and Oueen Mary), to b* held in "rill tho churches of the .diocese, and stated that conies of the service- would be printed for congregational use, with an alternative or ndditiona] evenincr service, as might bo desired.
