POPULATION OF GREATER AUCKLAND.

It was expected thatall the returns for tho constituent areas would be completed to-day,, but the figures for tho Borough o£ Birkenliead have not been yet completed. Without this borough tho population ot Greater Auckland is 107,720. and if the population of Birkcnhead is taken as 1475, tho total for Auckland will be 109,195. The latter estimate is lur from generous, as it allows an increase in Birkenhe-ul of only 209, which was tho addition made in tho previous five years. In five years tho population of Greater Auckland has increased by 24 per cent, while the addition during the past ten years has amounted to 54 per 'cent.
