SATURDAY'S GRADE MATCHES.
ST. ALB AN S WINS THE CHAM-
PIONSHIP,
The curtain was run 2 down, on the cricket season of 1910-11 on Saturday afternoon, when the playoff match between St. Albans and Sydenham, to decide the Senior Championship, and the deciding games to determine the winners of the Second Grade Competition were concluded at Lancaster Park. Notwithstanding the charge for admission, the St. Albans-Sydenham game attracted , a large mjmber of onlookers. On the previous Saturday the former had scored 262 for 8 wickets, and they declared the innings closed without battiny; again. .Sydenham thus had a full afternoon in which to make the runs, or play out time, either of which would give them the Chanipionship for the season, as prior to this game, they had won a match more than St. Alban?, though tho two teams were cqnnl on poinis. The weather was fine, and tho wicket as good as on the previous Saturday. Patrick and Watson started Sydenham's innings.' Sandman and Crawshaw bowling. With only 6on the sheet, Watson was bowled with a full tons. G—l—4. Patterson followed, and some capital batting saw the score mount rapidly, oO going up for half an hour's play. Patterson then tried to hit a straight one from Muff, who had replaced Crawshaw, and was clean bowled. 5-I—2 — 21. Hayes joined his skipper and play slowed .down. At 69 Crawshaw replaced Snndman, and in his first over got Patrick lbw. 73—3—37. Bruges was the in-goer. After slow play, O'Brien replaced Muff, and Bruges gavo an easy chance of stumpin?. Barrett failing to gather the ball. It made little difference, as the batsman was clean bovrl>>d shortly after. DB—4—l2.- Woods fol lowed and Sandman relieved O'Brien, Ollivier bowling at the other end. The latter chango was successful, Woods getting lbw. 116—0—12. Taylor joined Hayes, nnd ten runs later Allard bowled in place of Sandman, the latter going on at the other end in place of Ollivier. The latter change was successful, Hayes putting a soft one to Ollivier at ehort leg. 127—6 — 21. Wilson was nest, but at 141 was lbw to Sandman. 141—7—3. Gray followed, and at once lifted O'Brien, who had replaced Allard, on to the fence for 6. Crawshaw took another turn with the ball, and Ollivier, who replaced Sandman, got Gray caught at the wicket. 185—8—23. Bennett started with a 4 to leg, but in Ollivier's next over he returned one to the bowler. 191—9—4. Fowke was last man, and several changes were made in the bowling, until at 213 Taylor was well caught in the slips by Ollivier, St. Albans thus winning by 49 runs. Scores:—
