MINISTERS' MOVEMENTS

The Minister of Railways intends to tour the Lakes district and tho Otago goldfields next week. On Monday the hon. gentleman will leave Dunedin for Kingston and Qucenstown, remaining at tho latter place for a night. On Tuesday morning he will proceed by coach to Lake Wanaka by way of Arrowtown, and will stay at Pembroke over night. The next day he goes on to Cromwell, calling at Hawea Flat, Ludgate, and Mount Pisa station. A night will be spent in Cromwell, where tho Minister' will be entertained at a social gathering. He will also receive deputations, chiefly in regard to irrifation, an important subject in that istrict. On Thursday, the Minister will coach to Clyde and visit the _>unstan Horticultural Society's Show. Friday will bo srient at Alexandra, whore he will be entertained by tho residents. It is expected that tho hon. gentleman will return to Dunedin on Saturday week. If possible, a visit to Naseby will also bo made.
An invitation, signed by the Mayor of Ashburton (Mr H. Bavis), the borough councillors, tho chairman of the County Council, chairmen of various local bodie., and a number of business men, was sent to tho Premier (Sir Joseph "Word) yesterday, inviting him to deliver a political address in Ashburton next Thursday, and it is considered most probable that ho will accent tho invitation. The Mayor intends calling a public meeting to make arrangements for a suitable welcome if a favourable reply is received from Sir Joseph Ward.
