ADDINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET.

(BY OUR COMMERCIAL EDITOR.) There were good entries of stock and a large attendance. Fat cattle were in improved demand, including competition from the North Island, and prices showed a marked rise. Store lambs, which formed tho bulk of the entry of store sheC)P, were down 6d to Is 6d per head; fat lambs wore rather firmer, and fat sheep sold well. Bacon pigs were somewhat easier, but porkers were a litle firmer, and stores not so keen in demand. Store cattlo were dull of sale, but dairy cows met with a good enquiry. STORE SHEEP. Thero was a larger entry of store 6hcep than last week, the good demand of lato for store lambs resulting in a largely increased offering, and tho bulk of them were of good quality. Tho fall in tho price of fat lambs last week no doubt showed farmers that th ay were buying store lambs on too high a oasis, and consequently the prices paid last week were not maintained. Forward rape lambs were down about ('d to 9d per head, while medium sorts wero easier by Is and upwards. The range of prices was: —Forward rape lambs 10s to lis, medium S-a Gd to 9s Gd, and small to Bs. A l\no of twotooth ewes was passed at l&i'9d, fourtooth wethers made 12.<; 6d to 13s d. and aged ewes and lambs, all counted, 6s Id. FAT LAMBS. Tho entry of fat lambs totalled 4188, and tho quality of the offerings was the best of tho season. Thero were many large lines of very prime laml>3 penned,, and these made 15s to 17s 4d, and this showed a firmness, even considering the better quality, as compared with last week. The general range of prices was: —Prime lambs los to 17s 4d,'medium 18s 3d to los, and lighter lis dd to 13s. There wero 3601 taken for freezing, 49V by butchers, and 90 wore passed in. The entry of fat cattle comprised 224 head, and was made up chiefly of cows and heifers and a few pens of steers. The domand was a complete change from recent sales, being keen all through the sale, with tho result that values increased to 30s per 1001b. A feature of tho salo was tho operations of North Island buyers, it being quite a new thing for supplies being bought at Addington for shipment North, importation rather than export being tho rule. A complete clearance was effected, steers making £6 10s to £11 2s Gd, and extra to £13, heifers £5 los to £9, and cows £4 17s 6d to £8 2s 6d, equal to ?7s to 30s for prime, 24s to 26s for medium, and 21s to 23s for cow and inferior per 1001b. Veal calves sold at 4s 6d to 533, according to size and quality. Among the sales were: —For J. and O. Coop (Little River), 15 steers at £6 10s to £6 17s (kl; W. Bramley (Rangiora), 5 steers at £6 17s 6d to £12 ss; T. Chapman (Mount Palm), 23 steers at £11 2s 6d to £13; Hawkswood Estate, 21 steers at £8 15s to £10 15s. STORE CATTLE. A small yarding of store cattle, chiefly' of an indifferent class, met with a languid demand, and a number of pens were passed. Fifteen to eighteen months sorts mado 30s to £2 10s, two-year steers £3 10s (passed), two and a-half-year steers £5 8s 6d, three-year heifers £4 15s, and dry cows £1 ]0s to £3 10s. - "DAIRY COWS. Tho yarding was a small one, and th-s class generally poor, but in spite of this thero' was a free demand and a good clearance was made at prices ranghu*; from £3 to £10. PIGS. There was a gcod representative entry of pigs. Choppers wero dull of sale and prices up to 60s. Baconers were easier, large sorts making 50s to 565, smaller 40s to 495, equal to 4Jd to 4ld per lb. Porkers, on tho other band, improved in demand, large sorts making 32s to 38s, and lighter 23t> to 30s, equal to 4Jd to 4Jd per lb. There was a good yarding nf store pigs, and the larger sorts sold well, but for the smaller sorts tho demand was weaker than at tho previous salo. Large stores air.de 22s to 26s 6d, medium 14s to 20s, and small sorts 10a to I3s. For weaners the demand was not keen, thero baing fow buyers, and prices ranged from 5s 9d to Bs.
