ASHBURTON STOCK MARKET.
There was only a moderate attendance at the weekly stock sale held at the Ashburton yards yesterday. The total yarding numbered 3961 sheep, of which 480 were fat ewes, 117 fat wethers, 651 fat lambs, and 2713 stores. Compared with last week's rates, there was little or no change m the fat sheep market. Competition, however, was, perhaps, keener, owing to freezing buyers operating in all branches, and with one exception (a line of 53 lamb_) the whole entry changed hnnds. Prices .obtained were as follows: —Prime ewes, lis 9d to 13s 7d; medium weights, 9s to lis 4d; unfinished, 7s to 8s 6d; merinos, 5s 6d to 7s; prime freezing wethers, 15s lid to 16s Cd; others, 14s to 14s 7d; two-tooths, 13s; prime freezing lambs, 14s 7d to 15s 9d; others, 12s 7d to 13s lOd; unfinished, 10s 7d. The principal sales of lambs were:— 146 at 13s. 21 at 15s 3d, 83 at 10s 7d, 50 at 12s 7d. 91 at 15s sd, 68 at 15s 9d, 38 at 14s 7d, 75 at 13s Gd. The demand for store sheep was not so keen as the previous week, and three lines of rape lambs were passed in succession, the prices being 10s 7d, 9s 2d and 9s 4d. Sales were: 150 two-tooth half bred wethers at lis 3d, 215 rapo lambs (mixed sexes) at 9s Gd, 181 four, six and eight-tooth crossbred woolly ewes at 12s Id, 60 four, six and eighttooth halfbred ewes and 74 lambs- (all counted) 9s 7d, 100 rape lambs (mixed sexes) at lis 2d, 40 at 9s sd, 299 two-tooth halfbred ewes at "4s lid, 23 cull lambs at 5s 7d. Fat cattle sold as follows:—Heifers, £5 to £7; steers, £6 10s; nnd stores made; cows, springers £5 10s to £9 10s; cows in full profit £7 os to £7 10s; young stores, 25s to 57s 6d; dry cows, £3 t >s, calves, 14s.
