Taylor, MP., end Dr. "Thacker. Elsewhere Dr. Thacker announces his intention of contesting the election. In the course of an interview Dr. Thackor said that he was a strong advocate for the canal, the Town Hall, and good streets. The latter they could havo if the Tramway Company, the Drainage Board, and the Government, in with the Lake Coleridge scheme, would consent to tho appointment, of a Board of Works who would have charge oi the works in connection with the disturbance of the streets, so that this would not lie a continuous matter. Ho was of opinior. that the Lake Coleridge wires, and the telegraphic and telephonic wires should be placed underground, and the unsightlincss of the poles in our streets removed. The city should take over Tatersall's and transform it into a Municipal Arcade market with cool chambers for fish poultry, meat, ere., '.ml dc away with the monopoly which now existed, and which made the citizens pay far more than they ought. Subways should also bo placed at tho railway crossings at the Lincoln road, Colombo street south, and Wilson's road. The streets should be made with tarred metal and plenty of water for keetiing down the dust should be provided. He was strongly in favour of municipal Sunday band concerts.
