PROFESSOR MASSON'S PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS.
(Received January 10th, 12.35 a.m.) There was a brilliant gathering at the University to-night to hoar Professor Masson deliver his presidential address. Lord Chelmsford, t he Stat© Governor, presided. Professor Masson exhaustively reviewed the progress of chemical science. Ho made congratulatory references to the work of Australasian students, particularly Professors Rutherford and Bragg. He warned Australian Universities against tho tendency to devote their attention (solely to utilitarian objects.
