EAST CHRISTCHURCH AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB.

The twenty-first annual carnival of the East Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club was held at the Gloucester street School Baths on . Saturday afternoon. The entries received were very large, and tho racing was at times most exciting. During the afternoon an exhibition of lite saving and fancy swimming was given by Sir .G. E. Billson, ot the City Municipal Balhs, and he was very heartily applauded for hia very capable display. A very strong body of officials had charge of the' races, and everything went off very smoothly indeed. The following are the results:— < 62yds Maiden Handicap (Club): pmess trophies valued at £1 Is and 10s 6d. First heat: L. Cookson (2sec), 1; J. C. Irvine (6scc). 2. lime, 40 2-sth sec. Second heat: W. Tucker (scr), 1; A. H, Spratt (scr). 2. Time, 41 3-sth sec. Final: J. C. Irvine (6aec), 1; L, Cookson t2sec), 2. Timo>43 4-sth sec. Final, Ladies' Bracelet, 104 yds; prizes, trophies £3 3s, £1 Is. and 10s 6d (heats were decided December 29th, 1910)— F. Drake (sscc), 1; W. Cookson (lsoc), 2; L. A. Shand (lOsec), 3. Stokes (4aeo), the Only other starter, got off the mark a second too toon and withdrew. Shand led to within ten yards of the line, when the bookmarkers passed him. Time, 76 l-sth see.
