CATHEDRAL SQUARE.
THE NEW BY-LAW
Last night the City Council passed the following new by-law relating to Cathedral square:—
The following regulations shall have effect in Cathedral square in the City of Christchurch :-—
(1) A person shall not, uithotit the permission of the Council (a) deliver any .-erraon, lecture, or address : (b) pray aloud either iv company with another person or persons or alone.
(2) A person shall not cither in company with another person or persons, or alone, without the written permission of tho Council, nor in any case after having been requested by" any householder or his servant or agent to desist, sing aloud or play, or sound, any musical instrument, drum, or gong, ot sound or operate, or cause or permit to be sounded or operated, any gramophone, phonogaph. or other similar instrument.
(3) A person shall not so conduct himself, or carry on business in such a wav as to cause a crowd to be collected .
(4) No person shall., at any time of the day or night, drive or propel any vehicle or ride any horse on that portion of the roadway in Cathedral square which lies between the Tramway Shelter and the line of tramrails nearest to the front or eastern side of the said Shelter, and the said portion of the roadway in Cathedral square shall be deemed to be a footway only.
Cr. Cooper asked the Mayor what would bo the position of the Salvation Army under the new by-law?
The Mayor said he supposed they would have to obey it like others.
