CHARGES AGAINST A WELLINGTON FIRM.

A visit paid by Customs officiate to a building used by the Wellington Steam Ferry Company at EMtbourne . on Monday morning -last, resulted in -.' tlie seizure of a quantity of paiat. (1) That he was .knowingly con- ;. cerned in fraudulent ovasion of Cus- , toms duties during March last, namely, on certain paints, about 3J cwt. in (2) That between the 3rd and Bth of March last he wa« concerned in tha unr shipping from the steamer Neptuce of goods liable to duty, the duties : for which had not been paid or namely, a quantity of paint. In each case informant sues for a penalty of £100. Defendant is called upon to appear at the Magistrate's Court on Friday. The tramp steamer Neptune called at Wellington for bunker coal on the 3rd March last, while on a voyage from Port Kemhla to Falmouth with grain. She remained at anchor in the Btream off Kaiwarra till the morning of th© ■ Bth insW and then proceeded to England. It is alleged that during* her stay in port the paint mentioned was transferred from the steamer to a boat, and thence conveyed to Eastbourne.
