POLICEMAN CHARGED WITH PERJURY.

GREYMOUTH, December 6. Constable Wlute, of Otira, was committed for trial this morning, after a lengthy hearing of a charge of perjury allegea to have been committed in the Grey mouth Magistrate's Court on November 21st, when giving evidence against Denis Moynihan, of the Otira accommodation house, for an alleged breach of the Licensing Act, which was dismissed. Mr Hannan prosecuted on a private information, and Mr Beare., of Hokitika, defended. It was stated that next week's session of the Supreme Court would be too early for the accused to collect evidence to r-ontrndict the , depositions taken. He will appeal to the judge tc adjourn the hearing of the case until v later sessiin. Bail was pranted, the accused in £50, and two sureties or £2o each.
