REVENUE AND TRAFFIC
The usual monthly revenue and traffic returns were presented at the meeting of the Tramway Board yesterday. Thc revenue account for the twenty-eight days from October 10th to November 9th, showed that the gross earnings from operations had been £8871 16s lid as against £7739 8s for the corresponding period of last year. Th© operating expenses amounted to £5019 19s 9d, as against £4493 15s 3d. Tlie profit amounted to £994 17s 7d, as against £495 16s 7d for the corresponding period of last year. For the eight mor.ths ending November last the Board had made a profit of £1466 13s, as against a deficiency, of £416 14s 5a in the corresponding period of the previous year. The traffic returns for the four weeks from October 16th to November 6th, and a comparison with the corresponding period of last year, showed the following : —
Same period hist year .. .. 692,844 — — The Chairman drew attention to the increase in revenue from the Burwood line, which he said was largely due to tho re-arrangement of the penny section, which had been brought back from Armagh street to Worcester street, thereby increasing the twopenny fares considerably.
