AN APPOINTMENT.

Unit** Press Association— By Eleotria Tele_rraph*-Copyright. (Received November 30th, 9.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 30. Mr H. C. Woods, formerly of the Grenadier Guards, has been appointed Vice-Consul at Adana, in Asia-Minor. | This is a surprising sequel to a case I that aroused a good deal of interest !at Home some little time back. Mr Woods was obliged to leave the Army because he was considered, to be, unfitted for a military career. Ho alleged that his brother officers made a set against him because he was studious and would not join in their amusoments. Mr Haldane ordered an enquire to be held by a -military court, wiick was open to the Press. Mr Woods was able to bring a good deal of evidence in support of his contention that he was a capable officer, but his superiors in his regiment said that he laoked that capacity to control men which was essential to an officer's efficiency. . The court found against him. His father took the decision very much to heart, and did all he could to get it reversed, and young 31r Woods even went so far as to commence an action against the Minister and the Army Council, which was at bnco dismissed. Mr Woods was thanked by the authorities for some secret service work he did abroad. He is an authority on the Near East, where ho has travelled a good deal, and his book on Turkey was highly praised by the Press. if" ' '' —J"
