Tho mail boat Brighton, bound from Nowhavon for Dieppe, seriously damaged in a collision tho fivemasted ship Preussen, bound from Hamburg for Valparaiso, and tho world's largest sailer, off Beachy Head. The Preusen, which carried a crew of thirty, was eftenvards wrecked, but a gale and heavy seas impeded lifeboatwork. Th© coastguard made heroic efforts, and throw the rocket apparatus aboard, and the attempts at rescue still continue.
