Tho Canterbury Association have intimated to the Kaiapoi Borough Council that at their request Mr Erck had inspected the fire-engine, ■ which was 37 years old, and of an anti- , rjuatcd pattern. The blow-off pressure : had beeh reduced to 100 lbs, it took fifteen minutes to get steam up to 551bs, and when tho pressure had reached Dslbs it dropped at- times to 401bs. Thero were two lines of l/50ft ] of lio.se put out, and jets of water were ; thrown thirty feet. Unless the engine i was replaced n ith a new one, Mr Erck j recommended that it should be exton- ] sively repaired, and a new boiler to ; 1201bs pressure installed. Tho runt-tor j was referred to tho Firo Prevention ' Committee, a reply to bo sent to tho Association that the matter was already - under consideration. j
