CHEAPER CABLES.

THE ATLANTIC SERVICE.

United Press Association—Ey Electrio Te:egrnph—Copyright. (Received October 31st, 12.20 a.m.) LONDON, October 30. The statements that the recent negotiations with the Atlantic cable companies indicated the formation of a combine are denied in America. It is alleged that tho companies are only seeking to make service improvements. It is surmised that tho companies :n----tend to adopt a pooling scheme, and that tho story is to be used as a peg lo iirye the laying of an ImporialAtlantic cable. Mr Basondale, in an interview, declared he was unable to discuss the possibility of a cable trust. Ho did not. see how, under present circumstances, a new cable could be constructed, but with the removal of certain difficulties such a cab!t> might be advantageous in preventing artificially engineered cable tariffs.
