GERALDINE
The monthly meeting of the Geraldine County Council was held on Thursday. Present—Messrs G. J. Dennistoun (chairman), G. "W. Armitage, A. Metcalf, B. It. Macdonald, A. Kelman, and W. Dixon. An apology for absence was received from Mr I). Grant. Mr Banks, clerk to the Mackenzie County Council, in reply to a complaint from the Geraldine Council, wroto that he knew nothing about dogs from the Gerald mo district being registered in his county. He would have their books looked up, and if ho found Geraldine dogs had been registered ho was sure his Council would refund the taxes. Their ranger was instructed to collect fees from their own district only. The overseer reported that the work of dismantling the old Arowhenua Bridge was being proceeded with, and he asked for instructions for the sale by auction of the old timber. Mr M. O'Brien's offer to lease the island for grazing, near the Arowhenua Bridge, was declined. A circular was received from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Department, urging that local authorities should delegate their powers and responsibilities under the Public Health Act to the Hospital Board of the district. After discussion, it was resolved that the Council delegate its responsibilities to the South Canterbury Hospital Board. Payments were passed amounting to £33!) 19s 6^
