LITTLE AKALOA.

The Little Akaloa Tennis Club opened their season on Saturday last, and though the attendance was hardly so large as usual, a pleasant afternoon was spent. Several of the players showed fair form, and there is every prospect of a successful season. A very successful bazaar in aid of tho Children's Convalescent Cottage at New Brighton was held in. the Little Akaloa Hall on Wednesday. There was a splendid display of fancy work and other things, and brisk trade was done throughout the afternoon and evening. Various guessing competitions brought good returns, the winners being Miss Myria Waghorn, Messrs C. Waghorn, T Suckling, and Mrs A. Waghorn. Among tho many workers for the bazaar, Mosdaines Kay, Hunter, Barkle, Ashton, and Waghorn deserve special, mention. The newly-appointed vicar of Banks Peninsula, the Rev. F. J. Gillings, paid his first visit to Little Akaloa on Sunday and preached in St. Luke's to a large congregation. The chairman of the Land Purchase Board at Wellington has notified the applicants in the Long Bay Settlement Association who recently petitioned the Government that Mr F. Narbey's estate at Long Bay be acquired for closer settlement purposes, that all necessary papers are in order, and that he wiil pay a visit to Akaroa early next month and interview apr>licants.
