ANNUAL CONFERENCE

(SFXCI-U. TO "Tan. PRMS.") DUNEDIN, October 10. At the Baptist Church Conference today, Th© Rev. R. H. Rnowles Kempton introduced th© Remuera Home Committee report, and the following resolution was carried, on the motion of the Rev. .R. S. Gray, seconded by the Rev. R. H. K. Kempton:—"Tbat the appeal of the Remuera Home Committee of the Union he warmly commended to the sympathy and generosity of the churches and Sunday-schools of the denomination, and that the Committee be recommended to arrange with the editor of 'The Baptist' for regular publication of information about the work of tho florae." Most of tiio afternoon was taken up by papers and discussion on Sundayschool work by the Revs. Howard, Elliot, and F. McDonald, and the report of Mr C. R, N. Mackie, the delecat© of the Union to the World Sundayschool Convention held in Boston, U.S.A. , , .. The Assembly passed unanimously the following resolution, which was moved by the Rev. R. H. Knowles Kempton: —"That the special representative ot the New Zealand Baptist Union to the Baptist World Congress at Philadelphia in lull he the secretary, the Rev. It. b. Gray, of Christchurch, and that he be afked to accept the office as an expression of the high esteem m which he is personally held, and of grateful appreciation of his long and efficient services as secretary of tho Union, and that ! with a view- to this delegation, and as ' a further evidence of the high and affectionate honour in which w© hold him, the executive be authorised and directed to raise a testimonial to bo presented to our brother." A motion of greeting to tho World s Conference was carried, as was also ono to the Australasian Conference next March, th© Rev. Arthur Dewdney being elected as tho New Zealand delegate to Melbourne.

Tho Union resolved tc commend to the Churches in New Zealand the memorial of the World's Missionary Conference, held at Edinburgh, urging all Churches of Greater Britain to call public attention to the shame of the Indian Government's opium monopoly, and continued insistence on the rights of tho scandalous Treaty of Tientsin.

To-night the Baptist Union held a home mission demonstration.

The Rev. Alfred North (Ponsonby) presided, and gave an addrces in support of the hack-block missions. The Rev. H. B. Hughes (Hastings) dealt with the meanings, motives, and methods for carrying on home mission work.

Pastor J. D. Mill (Hamilton) urged progress as a means of increased spiritual power, and pointed out several places in New Zealand where no religious service had been held for five years.

The Rev. W. Hay, on behalf of the Union, presented the Rev. H. B. Hughes with a Bible dictionary for his brilliant work in the recent examinations.
