The new grounds of the New Zealand Utility Poultry Club onNorthcoto road, Papanui, were formally opened on Saturday afternoon. For the past few years the Club has conducted its eggiaving (competitions in the grounds of Lincoln College, which, however, proved to be too damp to be entirelysuitable for the fowls. The .fifth competition ended in March last; the cost ol maintenance of the five competitions totalling close on £2500. The receipts have been:—Sale of eges £1070, donations from general public £'2{X), grants from the Government £150,, and the balance has been mado up by general subscriptions and entrance fees. There are some sixty pens of birds on th-; new grounds where the sixth competition has just been commenced. The bulk of the pens are White Leghorns, and then come Silver "Wyandottes, "White Wyandottes, a few pens of Buff and Black Orpingtons, and one pen of speckled Hamburgs.
