BOWLING.

THE CHRISTCHURCH CLUB

Tho annual meeting of tho Christchurch Bowling Club was held in the pavilion last evening. Mr W. H. Macdougall occupied the chair, and there was a huge attendance of, members. The. annual report congratulated members on the success of,the past season. The total strength of the club was 83, but of these only 62 were actual playing members. Tho gross receipts amounted to £265 4s lOd, and there was a credit of £13 Os 2d on tho season's operations. With regard to play generally, the season's record had been an excellent one, and both the A and B Pennants had been won by the club. The thanks of tho club were due to Mr T. G. Strango for the care and attention which ho had given to the green. The club would bo invited to discuss whether it would not be ,to* tho interests of the club to recommend the Centre to either abolish pennant matches altogether or reduce the number.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted. .. -

The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mr W. H. Maodougall; vice-presidents. Messrs J. C. Maddison and W. H. Clark; secretary, Mr C. D. Hardic; treasurer. Mr W. Mosloy: committee. Messrs A. V. B. Bishop, J. S. Williams, E. E. Daniels, W. Helliwell, and R. W. Davies; auditor, Mr A A. McKellar; delegates to tho Christchurch Centre, Messrs J, S. Seager and T. W. R-owe; green superintendent, Mr W. H. Clark. On the question of Pennant matches, Mr Rowo moved:—"That this club is ot opinion that Pennant matches should bo driscontinucd." Ho said that bowling was ceasing to bo a pastime, and was becoming a business. A large number of bowlers had only hall a day a week to play, and they wished to play in a social way on their own greeu with their own clubmates. The Pennant matches interfered with play omonc the club member.--, and members who did not get into tho matches never bad a chance of playing with the best players. The motion was seconded by Mr C D. Hardic. ' Mr Seager moved an amendment: — 'That the club is of opinion that Pennant matches should be continued on a modified plan, so that there should be fewer fixtures for each Pennant." Ho thought th.t bowlinir would suffer if the competition., were withdrawn. The amendment was carried by 11 votes to 5. On a motion by Mr Manning, it was resolved that the club's delegates to the Centre be instructed -o support a proposal that one delegate be sent to the Centre from each club. • Votes of thanks to the oast year's officers wero passed, and the "prizes won during the past season were presented.
