A TIMELY RESCUE.
(special to "the press.") DUNEIMX, April 28. Tlie Union Company have received v;ord that on' Tuesday, A'iril 12th, when tho turbine steamer Mahono "was l>ound from Auckland to Sydney, tho captain, while u'.dkinc on d<>ck, l;e«rd the cry <;f ".Man overboard." He threw some lifebelts over, and rushing up on to the bridge, turned the sleamci round. The Muheno was making fifteen knots at the time, and there uas a considerable sea. A boat was lowered, and the missing, man was nicked up. He was a fireman, Peggs r by name, and was none tlie worse for his unpremeditated bath. Tlie accident happened, it is thought, through Peggy overbalancing from the rail on which he was eeated at the time. Tho alarm was given by one of the passengers. The accident occurred at 1.48 «.m. on Tuesday, April ]2th, when the MaJieno was thirty miles north-west of the Three Kings. To get a steamer of the Mahrno'e size and speed about in time ! to make isuch a timely resciie, the sea I conditions not being nt all favourable, is a feat of which Captain Livingstone tnay feel proud.
