SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
At the usual meeting of the Linwood North School Committee, a letter was received from the Education Board stating that the head master had been, granted leave of absence owing to! severe illness. It was decided to send letters of symoathy to Mr Evans, and to Mr H. S. Murray, a member of the committee who is also ill in hospital, expressing hopes for their speedy recovery. The" acting-head master reported an average attendance for the month of 339; that the mission room had been opened on April Ist. with Mr Hunnibell in charge, and that Miss Robertson had been sfmt down as temporary assistant pending the appointment of a permanent assistant teacher. Th*- names" of four candidates for the position of assistant mistress were forwarded by the Board, and it was decided to authorise the ayxointment of Miss Mabel Taylor to the position. At a meeting of the Geraldine School Committee, the head master, Mr J. R. Montgomery, reported that the cadets had been successful in winnius the South Island Challenge Shield. Tlie committee passed a resolution congratulating Mr Montgomery on thn proficiency Bhowu by the cadets at the riflo ranse.
