Drum-Mojor W. R. Tucker, of the Ashburton Temperance Brass Bond, has been presented by its members with a silver cigarette case and holder, in recognition of tho interest he has taken in the band during the past five years. At a meeting of the committee of the Ashburton Poultry Society, held on Tuesday evening, Mr A. S. Palmer was appointed judge of the poultry section (with tho exception of Wyandottes) at the Winter Shew, in place of Mr A. Walker, resigned. Mr J. Tindall will judge the Wyandottes, and ."fir F. H. Tlie Rev. Johu Takle, of India, at tbo Ashburton Baptist Tabernacle on Wednesday evening, gave a lecture illustrated by lantern views to a fairly large audience on the life, customs, and reliirions of the Hindu people.
Tho adjourned monthly meeting of the Ashburton Technical Classes Association was held on Wednesday evening, with Mr H. Davis in the chair. Mr Isaac, the Inspector of Technical Schools, was present, and discussed tho proposed plans for the new school, also details in connection with the section upon which the school is to bo erected, which will be finally laid before the Education Board. A grant of £33 13s 3d wpn received from the Department of Education for aoparatus for the plumbing class. Mr 51. Ken-Jaw offered to tako a class in plumbers, eubject to the Begird making tho nccessarv arrangements -with the Health Officer, Dr. Finch. slr Marquet wrote, stating he would be able to .tart the class for woolclossing ou slay 26th. The offer of a room for four months for the painting class, rent free, was accepted from Mr Bullock, with thanks. In reference to the application from tbo Sisters of Mission tor tho admission of children attending their school to tho classes, tho Board of Education advised that no pupils of private schools could be admitted to the Board's class™, but there was no objection to the Technical Cla_.es on em-h terms as tho Assoc-ution mi 2 ht think nocessarv to imncws. It was resolved that boys from the Catholic.
