The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) visited Levin yesterday, and opened the new Post Office at Weraroa. The Hon. D. Buddo, Minister for Internal Affaire, accompanied by his *rivate secretary, Mr J. W. Black, arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning
from Wellington. Mr Buddo went jn to Rangiora, but returned in .he afternoon to open the- Presbyterian Church bazaar at Papanui. He left later on for Belfast and Rangiora To-day Mr Buddo visits Ohoka and Ohapuka, and on Monday he returns to Christchurch, leaving in the evening for Wellington. The Hon. R. McKenzie and the Hon. J. Carroll left Gisborne yesterday, " travelling overland", to inspect the oountry through which will pass the proposed Gisborne-Napier railway. Mr. Holmes, Engineer-in-Chief, accompanies the party. Mr w. E. Massey, Leader of the Opposition, arrived in Ashburton from the South by the second express yesterday, and was the guest for the night of Mr W, Nosworthy, M.P., at Anama. Mr Massey returns to Ashburton this morning, and leaves for Christchurch by the second express. Mr H. Jt. H. Balneavis has been appointed private secretary to the Hon. A. Ngata, vice Mr Macalister, who is now acting in a similar capacity to the Hon R. McKenzie.
Mr H. F. Toogood, an ex-resident of Christohurch, who has been for some time in the East,:■* and wno has been appointed resident engineer to the Hokitika Harbour . Board, arrived *n townyiesterday. Mr Toogood leaves for the West Coast to-day.
The arrivals in town yesterday included Mr J. H. Henton (Wellington), Mr F. G. Binney (Auckland), Mr J. "*•!. Brown (Wellington), and Mr E. It. Crouch (Brisbane). . Mr Turton, stationmaster at Dunsandel, who is being transferred to Christchurch, was on.Wednesday prepented with a purse of sovereigns by the residents of Dunsandel.
On Wednesday evening Mr John Owen, late railway yard foreman at Lyttelton, who has retired from the service after thirty-five years, was entertained f,t a social by the members of tbe Lyttelton railway staff. Mr W. Hannay, stationtnaster, presented Mr Owen with a case of pipes and a gold brooch for Mrs Owen.
