Day, formerly second officer of the steamer Tottenham, replying to quevtions submitted by the Marine Department concerning his story that bodies were seen off East London shortly after the Waratah waft reported missing, states, that he raontiontxl the matter to three men in Melbourne, when the Tottenham was there, and also to his parents on reaching England. The captain and an apprentice were talking about the matter with tlie ship's agent in Melbourne.. If other members of the crew did not talk about tlie matter, it was because orders were given by the captain and officers to say nothing, as it might cause the ship a. lot of bother.
