DAIRYMEN'S UNION.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. Tho annual general meeting of the Dairymen's Industrial Union of Employers was held last night. Mr W. L. Wright (president) was in the chair, and thero was a fair attendance.
The financial statement for the year ending March 31st showed receipts £21 4s sd, and credit balance £1 15s Id. Assets were estimated at £39 los Id (including outstanding subscriptions £38), and liabilities £1 ss, leaving an excess of assets over liabilities of £38 ■Os Id. The annual report stated that the total number on the books was 77. The past season, taken on the whole, had been a favourable one for the dairy industry generally, and although in Bpito of repeated efforts to have proposed dairy" regulations gazetted, and the Dairy Industry Act amended, nothing had yet been done by the Government in the matter. During the past -year a deputation waited upon the Minister of Health regarding the standard of milk, and requested the standard to be reduced to 3 per cent, during the spring and early summer months, and he kindly promised to give the-matter Im_ attention. Since then the ; HoaHh Department had taken a number rof tests fr6m representative herds in."the district, and the evidence gathered bore out the statement* that the test was too high during the. period stated. - -At the same time a deputation waited upon the Minister of Internal AfFairs regarding Crown prosecution fees, which were considered unnecessary in cases of dairymen being prosecuted for technical breaches of the Act where they were prepared to plead guilty. The Minister promised that in such cases the Dairy Inspector would-conduct his-own case, and thereby save expense, A number of dairymen had made substantial improvements to their premises during the past year, and a greater sense of. security, prevailed amongst them on account of repeated promises of the Agricultural Department that they would not be unduly harassed in the future.
The report and financial statement were adopted . On the motion of Mr J. Parlane and Mr _■_. Thompson, it was decided to jjpve members in arrears with subscriptions notice that unless they paid up before next meeting, they would be struck off the books.
Six new members were elected, and two members resigned owing to taking up other callings.
The following officers were elected: — President, Mr W. L. Wright- vireprcsidents, Messrs J. Parlano and E. Thompson; secretary, Mr J, Crbnln; treasurer, Mr T. McCallum; auditor, Mr J. Morris*. The election of committee was held over until next meeting.
