FIRES.
The insurances on the White Rock homestead, burned down on Sunday morning last, were £900 on the building and £400 on the furniture with the New Zealand Farmers' Insurance Company. Mr H. C. Ensor estimates his loss over the insurances at £700. Two stacks of oats, the property of Mr John Cochrane, El«in, and containing approximately 1(XX) bushels., were totally destroyed by fire on Monday.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION' TELEGRAM.) WAIROA, April 20. A deliberate attempt to burn down StewarVs Hall, next McDougalFs book depot, was discovered yesterday morning. On the building beinu opened, it was found that a stained-glass window at the back had been smashed, and on the table was a bundle of half-burnt clothing, taken from the waahhouse at Storey's Hotel. The police are investigating. AUCKLAND, April 20. A fire occurred in Customs street tonight, the premi&ee of Cliarles Bailey, junr., boat builder, and Alf. Bailey. blacksmith, and the stock being destroyed, while the premises of C. P. Murdock, joiner, were damaged. Among the stock destroyed in Charles Bailev'a premises were several boats, principally launches. He estimates his loss at over £2000, but he lias policies in the New Zealand Insurance Company's office for £1000. J*U RaiW a loss is estimated at £300.
