THE VICTORIAN OAT CROP.
According to the estimate* of the Victorian Government Statist (says the "Sydney Daily Telegraph ot the 13tn inst.) tho yield of oate for this season is 7 913,423 bu&lwLs. from an area ot from 419,860 acres, or an average ot ot 20.60 bushels. This compares witti la«t season's yiokl of 11,129,910 bushels from 11'J,869 acres, or an apr.rage- ot 20.50 bushels per acre. The actual yield per acre is 2.92 bushels per acre he low tho pre-harvest estimate ot "3 -32 bushels, based upon information received in November, 1909, and tho arcu harvested for grain is 59,7/4 acres loss than was then taken into calculation. Tho area estimated for oat crop (grain and hay) on August 9th last was 1,076,900 acres, whilst actual returns show 1,044,751 acres, a discrepancy of only 3 per cent. It was estimated that 444.U00 acres would ho harvested for grain, leaving 632,900 acres tor hoy. Actual returns show 384,226 acres for grain and 660,52.5 ucres for liay. Produce expected from the 444,000 acres was 10,444,000 bushels — an average of 23.52 bushels per acre; but the actual yield was considerably less than this.
