Farman had travelled by aeroplane fifty miles across country, from Etampes to Chevilly, near Orleans, M. Paujhan travelled 130 miles !on the same machine, reaching in Aube. He started again next morning, and covered forty miles to Chalons. Covering the 220 miles occupied five hours. M- Paulhan outpaced a powerful motor-car, and overtook a train. Sometimes his machine rose to a height of from 1800 to 2000 feet.
