The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) arrived in the Ruahine district ' ye&terday afternoon. Sir James Mills, managing director of the Union Steam Ship Company, ietnmed from Wellington yesterday, sad left for Dunectin by' the secon'l express. l'he Hon. Dr. Findlay has resigned his seat on the Victoria College v/ouncil Mr Geo. Hicks, who has been a jntmber of the staff of the "Otago Daily Times" end "Witness" for tne past ten years, has purchased the i*atca "County Press," and assumes control at the beginning of May. Among the arrivals in town yesterday were: —Mr and Miss Lelievre (Akaroa), Mr E. T. Clemens (Dunedin), Mr C- A. Griffith (Wellington), Mr H. T. Little (Hawarden), Mr A. Wheeler (Dunedin), Mr P. McNeil (Dunedin), Mr A. W. Holmes (Rakaia), an d Mr G. 0. Greenwood (Teviotdale). Word has been received that Mr Peter McEvedy, eon of Mr P. McEvedy, of "Blackwater," Southbridge, who is studying in England, has passed the London matriculation examination. Mr McEvedy has now qualified to enter Guy's Hospital,, where he will complete his studies for, the medical profession.
