SOUTH SEA HURRICANE.
EXTENT OF THE DAMAGE,

SYDNEY, March 30.
Private cables from Fiji show that the fears entertained regarding the extent of the damage done by the hurricane aro unfounded. The damage was chiefly confined to Suva and vicinity. Levuka, Lautoka, and Taviuni escaped damage, but it will be a few days before the effect on any of tho outlying islands is known.
A hurricane raged at Noumea on Sunday, causing great damage. Houses were unroofed, telegraph lines blown down, and roads washed eway by th© high seas. The German gunboat Cormorant lost several boats in tho gale. MISSION BUILDINGS DAMAGED.

SYDNEY, March 30.
The secretary' of the Methodist Mission has received a cable from Suva announcing that great damage has been sustained by tho mission buildings. There were a number of casualties but no fatalities. The damage, so far as is known, is estimated at £3000.
