SHIPPING NOTES.

Tho Westport Coal Company's steamer Canopus is due here this morning from Wostpart, via Timaru. After discharging the bclsnce of her cargo of coal, the vessel will sail, probably to-night, for Westport. Tne Kittawa is due here this morning: from Westport, via Timaru, to discharge the balance of her cargo of coal. The Knrow is expected to sail about Friday for Wallington to discharge the balance of her cargo of Newcastle voui. Tho Arapawa arrived during the night with a cargo of coal from Puponga. The vessel will load here for Wellington, Wanganui, and Patea, and will sail at noon to-morrow. After coaling the Paparoa, the Blackball Coal Company's collier Petone sailed late last night for Greymouth. The Ngahere left the Gre-j at 12.80 p.m. yesterday, and is flue here abont 4 a.m. to-morrow. She will finish coaling tho Paparoa and the Devon and then return direct to Greymouth. The White Star Liner lonic, from London, via ports, will arrive at "Lyttelton this morning to finish discharging. The Huddart-Parker steamer Uiimaroa, from Melbourne, via Hobart, BluS, and Dunedin, will arrive here this morning, one day early. She remains until to-morrow afternoon, when, she leaves for Sydney, via Wellington. Mr J. Hannay, son of Mr W. Hannay, stationm-ste. at Lyttelton, is sixth engineer on the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Otaki, which is due here about tho end of next week from London, via Dunedin and Timaru. Mr Hannay left Lyttelton about 14 months ago and made several voyages from Krgland to the River Plate as fourth engineer of the Kelvindale.

According to Teport, the "Waihora is to leave Newcastle to-day with a cargo of coal fcr Wellington and Lvttelton. Tbe French barque Marie, which left Philadelphia on January lOth for Lyttelton and Dunedin, with a largo cargo of case oil. was sooken sixteen days later in latitude 37deg. N*. longitude 36deg. W. The barque Marjory Glen, bound from Liverpool to Wellington, wa- spoken on January 22nd in latitude sde-*r. S. longtitudo 82d«g. W. The vessel, which wa« then 42 days out. reported "all well." The Wootton, which is having her boiler overhauled, is exnected to sail to-morrow for Kcikoura, to load sheep, for Kaiapoi.
