HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD ELECTIONS.

ERROR IN CHRISTCHURCH

RETURN

MR H. B. SORENSEN ELECTED.

On an examination of the ret-"""! 3 vestorday, an error was discovered in tn© result of the election of the . members to re-present the City of Christchurch. In telephoning the results from one of the Linwood booths the votes cast for Mr Sorensen were credited to Mr Morris, the error, on being corrected, increasing Mr Sorensen's total by 00, and reducing Mt Morris's by a similar amount. An error in the returns from.one of the Sydenham booths further reduced Mr Morriss's total by 11, or a total reduction of 61. The effect of, tho correction is that Mr Sorensen (who was eighth on the list originally) is now seventh on ihe list, and displaces Mr T. Gapes. __. , __ Following are the corrected returns :—-

HOW THE WARDS VOTED.

The number of persons who recorded their razes at the election on Wednesday of seven persons to represent the city was 1953. The gross total on the rolls is 18,021, but when there are deducted the names which have been struck off, it is probable that the net total of votes that could have been cast would be about 17,000 odd, Mr Jameson, clerk to the Selwyn County Council, and returning officer for the county election for the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, had received, up to last night, all the returns except one, which might affect the final result. Details of the polling; will therefore not bo made known until today. —

(PKBSS ASSOCIATION TEL-GRAMS.)

Councillor Clark 681. For the Hill suburbs, Hr Wilkinson nnd Mr Hamel defeated the Mayor, Mr Bridger, of Mornington. " -"or Waikouaiti Mr Templetoir was successful.

WANGANUI, March 17. At the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board elections, Messrs Carson. Battle, and Spriggens were elected. Tho lady candidate' was defeated.

TO THE EDITOR OF "THE FRESS."

Sir,—Will you allow mc through your paper to sincerely thank those electors who have placed us women on the new Hospital and Charitable Aid Board? If we follow the excellent exampl—s of our predecessors—Mrs Black, Mrs Dunkley, and Mrs Wells—in attention to duty and loyalty to responsibility, we shall, I trust, not disappoint tho public. I do not know why the good Mayor hints that the new members may "imagine they know all about the hospital, which had taken thirty years to get into an efficient condition," or why these members should bring forward "proposals that might lessen efficiency and lead to great expense"!

It is hardly fair to handicap us with such gloomy suggestions.

Let us hope that we shall not indulge in bumptious bomb-throwing, but behave like ordinarily intelligent citizens who look before they leap.—Yours, etc., E. W. CUNNINGTON.
