The ♦•fi**""*" schoolboys* life-saving competition for the Sir John Hall Challenge Shield w»» held at the Sydenham baths yesterday afternoon. There was a fair attendance of the public, and 'Messrs W. E. X>. BUhop and J. Buchanan, of the Cantorbtrry Centre of the New Zealand Swimming Association, acted as judges. Mr P. Mensies -was timekeeper. Five teams, representing the Waltham, West Christohureh, Lyttelton, Richmond and Sydenham ecnools, competed. The boys were' «c----erciscd m drill, -reruecitation. and rescue -work. The Sydenham tewm (~. Wiltshire, L. Guy, K. __- and S. Hunt) gave an excellent -isr-olay, and were awarded the Shield. Tfatijr carried out their work with 3»pi—ty o—d precision, and showed that they bad practioal knowledge of life-saving. _ytteJton (H. Lew—i, W. Brown, A. Sinclair aijaa J- Latin—son) finished second. This team, though not quite as quick in their movements as Sydenham, performed very creditably. Tie Shield haa only been competed for twice, and Sydenham have won it on both otx—iic_t.
